Before the beginning of the summer, in the centre of Vitoria-Gasteiz, there were several protests: It was then known that the supermarket Supercor will open its doors 365 days a year, between 07:00 and 01:00 hours. Now, with the new course, Supermarkets Sabeco–Simply will also have the same schedule and Sundays and holidays start opening their doors. This is located in the Txagorritxu district on Gasteiz Avenue.
The Works Committee (CGT, ESK, UGT) and the Jai Egun Denok Jaia platform have decided to anticipate the next working hours: From Gasteiz Avenue they have called to join the Sunday strike in the supermarket, which will last until 31 December.
From the Works Council and from the Jai Denok Jaia platforms, they have denounced that workers pay EUR 800 per month for financial compensation. “Now, as if it were not enough, they will also work on Sundays and holidays to further enrich the major brands. The excuse they put is that they want to offer a better service to society, but this is nothing but an attack on the quality of life.” Furthermore, the Works Committee considers that society does not need the following broad schedules: “The Vitorians have not asked for this broad schedule.”
But beyond the workers and the unions, neighborhood agents have also begun to move. Proof of this is the note by the Trikuharri Youth Assembly and the call to boycott.
“These measures precarize the working conditions of the workers of these establishments, guarantee their exploitation and cause direct damage to small businesses, which will mean their closure in the short and medium term”, they have censored. “Following the path of precariousness that most of the workers suffer today in the different sectors, we are facing a new step backwards, with the consequences that this entails.”
Trikuharri Gazte Asanblada is clear that solidarity is necessary in these cases and, therefore, at the neighborhood and city level a message of support has been sent to “all those who fight against this new form of exploitation”.
Faced with this situation, they have appealed to the citizens of the neighborhood and Vitoria-Gasteiz to "solidarity with this new aggression against the working class and not buy it in these shops". “So that this situation does not become commonplace, we invite you to participate in the concentrations that are organized on Sundays 2 and 23 December at 11:30 in Supercor (Fueros 22) and at 12:30 in Simply (Avenida de Gasteiz, 87), as well as in the mobilizations that are called.”
With the new Alcampo of the neighborhood there are already 2 premises in Vitoria-Gasteiz that stay open between 07:00 in the morning and 01:00 in the evening, 365 days, holidays and Sundays.
In the neighborhood and in the city we are not going to admit these kinds of shops! 🔥💥
