The Guardian and La Vanguardia leave X/Twitter
- British daily The Guardian and Catalan La Vanguardia, which publishes a more widespread edition in Spanish but also in Catalan, announced yesterday their decision to abandon the social network X/Twitter for becoming the focus of disinformation.
As they have announced, La Vanguardia will stop publishing the tweets live and leave their accounts in an unerased impasse. Journalists will be free to continue their work, among them those who have extensive monitoring in Spain, such as Enric Juliana or Pedro Vallín. The decision of La Vanguardia took into account that X/Twitter has become a box of trash echoes, "has become a platform where conspiracy and misinformation prevail". The newspaper claims that it has been found that "anti-human rights ideas, such as hatred of ethnic minorities, misogyny and racism" have become viral, and that is what drives Elon Musk's proprietary platform to earn more money from advertising. He also criticized that "the massive presence of bottles of unknown origin distorts the discussion".
The Guardian announced its decision yesterday with an article from its technology editor.
