The use of an ultra-right group in the sale of Loiola barracks in Donostia was stopped
- The question of the Loiola barracks is not at its best. The Spanish Ministry of Defence and the City of San Sebastian agreed last week on the "temporary" suspension of the agreement, since it could not be implemented before the 18th day, which is the maximum limit established for the sale of the dwellings. The Diario Vasco reports on a new problem: the recourse of an ultra-right group.
This is the challenge presented in the National Court against the agreement on the sale of goods. For the time being, the only thing that is known is that it has been presented by the Association for Reconciliation and Historical Truth. This ultra-right group intends to paralyze any decision derived from the “harmful and revanchist” Law of Historical Memory and defend “the Spanish historical heritage in the face of doctrinal attacks”, as stated on its website.
Suspension last week
Let us remember that the management of the Spanish Coast established a minimum limit of 100 meters between the dwellings to be built in the zone of barracks and the Urumea River. For its part, the Municipality, which claims that the border crossing should reach 20 metres, submitted allegations to the management of the Basque Coast. Time has elapsed since then and they have not yet received a reply. That is why the Local Government Board approved the temporary suspension of the convention on 6 August.
According to the Department of Urban Planning, the purpose of the request is to avoid the deadline for signing the scriptures. Indeed, the termination of the agreement would require a further processing of the purchase and sale process, which would greatly delay the process.
73.3 million
In November 2022, the City Council and the Ministry of Defense agreed to the sale of barracks and a year later they closed it for EUR 73.3 million, EUR 5 million already paid, EUR 65 million for signing the Scriptures and another EUR 3 million at the end of the operation.
The municipality plans to build between 1,500-1,700 homes. The number of these homes to be protected has not yet been determined, but when the technical assessment for the agreement was made, the minimum established by law was taken into account: 60% free and 40% protected (20% rated and 20% official protection).
In addition to the 17.5 hectare space occupied by the barracks, an area of six hectares of Ulía will also pass into municipal hands, but it is not possible to develop everything. In particular, 142,000 square meters will be allocated for residential use and 8,000 for tertiary use, as announced by the mayor following the agreement reached between the two parties.
