The Management Board of the company that manufactures the Alsasua buses presented the creditor competition this Wednesday. Workers' representatives have called for the implementation of a "real industrial plan" and have called for a demonstration on Sunday in Pamplona/Iruña.
The Sunsunsundegui bus company presents an increasingly black picture. In September he presented the pre-competition of creditors, unable to deal with the millionaire debt, and although during this time he has been looking for investors – according to the News Journal he has spoken to ten companies and also with investment funds – this Wednesday he has decided not to exhaust the deadline and has declared the competition of creditors.
It has therefore left its future in the hands of an investigating judge and the fate of almost 400 plant workers. In any case, the company has announced that it will continue to seek investors. The Government of Navarra, integrated in the company through the Sodena society, has also said that "until the last moment" will seek a "strategic" partner.
But the workers don't trust anything. In fact, until a few months ago, the company had a work forecast for 800 jobs.
But the workers don't trust anything. In fact, the company had until a few months ago a job forecast for 800 jobs, the result of a contract with Volvo for the production of high-end buses, a contract that was cancelled in July and has been reduced to bad news. At the moment they are in a state of flux.
Thus, the works council has called for "the commitment of all parties in the search for a solution that responds to a real industrial plan" and has called for a demonstration this Sunday in Pamplona/Iruña under the slogan Sunsundegui has a future. The workers have stressed that Sunsunsundegui "has the potential" to move forward and that it is strategic, not only for the people of Alsasua, but for "all of Navarre".
Delicate situation
In September, the Minister of Industry of the Government of Navarra, Mikel Irujo, announced a report by the consultant KPMG. It states that the company's financial debt amounts to EUR 48.8 million and proposes a "reduction in staff" to cope with the hole.
The company is going through a deep crisis. Although millionaire public loans have been received in recent years, management has not been able to reverse the situation. The Irujo himself, in statements in the Basque Parliament, acknowledged that Sunsunsundegui is "in a delicate situation".
