At 21:30 pm yesterday, Monday, the neighbors alerted the fire to the existence of the fire. The first to approach were the parents of the ikastola, then the fire brigade arrived, and by then the roof of the building and several classrooms had already been burnt. Firefighters from Hendaia (Lapurdi), Donapaleu and Iholdi (Lower Navarra) went to quell the fire, which has already been suffocated. Although the exact cause of the event is still unknown, firefighters suspect that the fire has originated from an electronic box at the site of the fire.

The building, which was empty at the time of the fire, was not affected by the fire. The parents of the ikastola have assured that, although no injuries have been recorded, the material damage has been "serious", as they have indicated. In addition to the building, the informatics and pedagogical materials of the burned spaces and classrooms have “deteriorated completely”.

The director of Arberoa Ikastola told Radio France Bleu that it is planned to return to school on 4 November and to reopen the school, although he has not specified where the students will be heading. SEASKA’s parents’ associations will seek alternatives to solve what happened at the Bilbao Metro.
