The Stop Etxegabetzeak platform has been addressed to the mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, due to the housing problem. The Association states that the City Council has not “promoted” the channeling of empty housing to Alokabide or Bizigune through information campaigns between the building and the small owners.
On the other hand, the platform has asked the mayor to “not criticize” the Housing Law and to promote the Alokabide system, “to mobilize empty dwellings, to reduce tourist dwellings and to be able to remove more housing at a cheap price for the donostiarras”.
The association highlights the importance of the Housing Law: “The law allows to regulate high rent prices in a tense situation in San Sebastian. Housing is a right, not a business.”
San Sebastian, among the most expensive
The members of the platform note that San Sebastian is the third most expensive city in the state: “It has an average purchase price of EUR 400,000 and a rental price of EUR 17 per square meter, which means that families must allocate an average of 39% of their income to the payment of the mortgage and/or rent.” He has therefore denounced the “expulsion of San Sebastian” from families with more than 6,000 young people and minors.
