STEILAS and LAB report that the Department of Education has cancelled the technical meeting they had convened today
- The Department of Education has explained to the EITB that the resources that must be available in each center should be dealt with at the negotiating table, as part of the negotiations in the technical assemblies. Tomorrow and the day after, teachers from public schools in the Basque Country will go on strike.
There seems to be little chance that teachers in public centres in Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa will stop striking: STEILAS and LAB denounced that the Department of Education of the Basque Government has cancelled the technical meeting they had convened today. At today’s meeting they did not agree to refer to the working agreement, which corresponds to the negotiating table, and as the LAB has pointed out, they still do not receive any new proposals from the Lake.
The Department of Education has informed the EITB that the reason for this decision has been the question of negotiating the resources to be available in each school: according to them, instead of addressing this issue in technical assemblies, they have indicated that it should be addressed at the negotiating table, arguing that it has become an important issue in the strike talks. The Minister of Education, Begoña Pedrosa, made an appearance on Friday, stating that they were "on the verge of reaching a good agreement" for which they were willing to negotiate.
Today’s decision by the Department of Education shows the turbulent negotiations that the unions and the Basque Government are having for the moment: they met last Monday and could not reach an agreement until early in the morning. In the end, the unions decided to keep the strikes. Since then they have not met, and STEILAS denounces in a message published in the networks that the Basque Government has no will to advance the negotiations: "On Friday we also expressed our willingness to dedicate ourselves to this weekend, but they have ignored our offer."
Calling for tomorrow’s and tomorrow’s shutdowns
After a three-day strike last week, strikes have been called for Tuesday and Wednesday by STEILAS, LAB, ELA and CCOO, and teachers from public schools in the Basque Country are called to strike. On Tuesday, demonstrations will take place in San Sebastian, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Bilbao, starting at 11.30 a.m., while on Wednesday the only call was made at the Europa Palace in Vitoria-Gasteiz at 11.30 a.m.
