Following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, Hamas talks about how to move forward with the war in the Middle East the day after the assassination. The United States, by the mouth of Joe Biden, has immediately announced that the ceasefire can now take its free path. Along the same road, several leaders from the West have followed. Benjamin Netanyahu responded clearly: “The war will continue until it wins.”
It is not clear, however, what it means to “earn absolutely” for Israel. Following the attacks of 7 October 2003, Israel announced that winning Hamas would be to completely defeat and free the hostages. A year later, neither have they been filled, despite the fact that more than 42,000 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip, and tens of thousands have been injured. On the other hand, 101 Israeli hostages remain in the hands of Hamas, while the Israeli Army says that half of them could be killed.
That’s why deaths like Sinwen’s come very well to Israel to present itself as a victory, especially when they have presented it as “organizer” of the Hamas attack on 7 October. There is no doubt that killing the leaders of the organisation is painful for Hamas, but there is no doubt that the organisation manages to reorganize and continue the war against Israel. According to the Israeli army, it has killed one third of the HAMAS fighters in eastern Gaza. HAMAS continues every day to fight and kill and injure Israeli soldiers. The civil administration in Gaza, for its part, is also in power.
For years Sinwar has been the military leader of Gaza and in July, after the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, he was named the leader of Hamas. Dozens of Palestinians, both from the Palestine Liberation Organization and from Hamas, have been killed by Israel in terrorist attacks, but that has not brought any peace to the Middle East, and yes, the new wars.
It is not clear, however, how Sinwar was killed. The Israeli army carries out such operations after months of follow-up, but on this occasion there has been speculation that Israel did not know that one of the deaths was the head of HAMAS. Finally, the Israeli Army has ensured that, following the DNA tests carried out, it has been found to be yours.
“War is going on”
Iran and Hezbollah regretted the death of Sinwar and said that "resistance" will continue to fight Israel, while stressing that it has already moved on to another stage. It is said that the ceasefire without Sinwar may be easier in Gaza, and the United States has announced that it already has contacts with negotiators from Qatar and Egypt to resume the negotiations that have been stalled for weeks.
In any case, in Gaza and in Lebanon, the war is continuing and at the moment you do not see how it can be ended. In Gaza, it seems that Israel wants an empty North of people, as it gives the order to evict the territory over and over again. However, thousands of Palestinians are still there, either because they have not moved south, or because they have internalized that Israel can kill in the same way anywhere in Gaza.
In recent weeks, Israel has hit Hamas and Hezbollah spectacularly, and the planned bombing of Iran remains to be done. Israel says it is going to be very hard, and according to the precedents, there are many reasons to believe that it will be so.
At present, the Lebanese Ministry of Health has announced that the Israeli Army has killed 45 people and 179 have been wounded in the attacks on Thursday. The Israeli Armed Forces reported that more than 150 attacks on Gaza and Lebanon have been recorded this Thursday.
