The Parliament of Navarre calls for participation in the Altsasu Youth March
- On Monday, the Parliament of Navarre called for a demonstration in Pamplona to support the young people of Altsasu. The four parties that support the government have left and the opposition have opposed it.
The mayors and representatives of Barranco, Llanada Alavesa and Goierri met this weekend in Arbizu, the sixth stage of the popular initiative AltsasuAbian. In order to give support and warmth to the litigants and parents of Altsasu, the participants of AltsasuAbian are crossing Navarre. On this occasion, the mayors and representatives of the three valleys mentioned have gathered to express their solidarity with the parents of the defendants of Altsasun.
The mayor of Arbizu, Karmele Marañón, said that the incident in the bar of Altsasu is not terrorism, but that “we need justice” and demanded that Altsasu, Sakana and the Basque Country be “left in peace”. The same opinion was expressed by the Mayor of Urdiain and President of the Commonwealth of Sakana, David Oroz.
On behalf of the Fathers of Altsasu, Bishop Urrizola spoke and proclaimed “justice” in gratitude for the solidarity received in recent months.

The trial of the Altsasu youth case will take place on April 16, and the participants of the March call to attend the demonstration that will take place in Pamplona on the 14th of the same month.
Unions against the issue
The unions CCOO, ELA, LAB, ESK, CGT, STEILAS, TRES and EHNE have announced in a statement their rejection of the case against the young people of Altsasu. “We express our rejection of the characterization of the acts described as terrorism, the demand for 12 and 62 prison sentences that add up to 375 years and the situation of the three young people who have been in pretrial detention for 16 months”, they report.
“The inadequacy of the criminal classification imposed on the facts, the failure to comply with the legal obligations necessary to be able to withstand these accusations, the lack of proportionality and the expansive interpretations of the criminal types violate the freedoms that must protect us all, the procedural guarantees and the legal security”, they affirm, which is why they request the withdrawal of the precautionary measures of pre-trial detention and the prosecution of the case in Navarre.
