Report of Sexual Assault on the March
- It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the denunciation of a sexual assault in Santurce on May 27. Receiving a new one like this one a week after the walk has caused us sorrow and excitement, because it was a great day for the Corazón Joven school and for everyone in general, and we had the belief that everything was perfect.
We have now learned that on the day we celebrated our feast, in Santurce, a teenager, a young girl, was the victim of a sexual assault, as revealed in a complaint filed by her and her parents the next day before the Police Station, and that a young man is being investigated as the perpetrator of this attack. We have little information, we only know what has appeared in the press today. That is why, at the moment, we need to be cautious, but, nevertheless, we cannot remain silent.
We cannot remain silent, because although this denunciation will take its course, we must say that we do not tolerate sexual assault in any way, not in society, and even less in our festivities. We denounce and condemn this type of action with all our strength, because it is not only a complete denunciation of force as such, but also an action that is completely contrary to the model of society that we promote, the model of education that we give to our students, to our children.
In recent years, we’ve worked hard to encourage egalitarian parties at school parties, not to tolerate sexist attacks, and to counter them if they occur. We have detailed protocols and initiatives that we strictly adhere to. It is incumbent upon us and we will continue to deepen it, because we believe that this is the most important contribution that scholars could make in this matter. Although not everything depends on us, we will continue to do everything that depends on us.
