The Basque Government will launch the Barnahus pilot project, which aims to provide comprehensive care for minors who have suffered sexual abuse. This has been clarified by the Minister of Equality, Justice and Social Policies, Beatriz Artolazabal, who explained that the objective of this program is to provide comprehensive care to victims, both judicial and socio-sanitary. The project, which was born in Iceland, is based on the creation of "children's flats" that are respectful of the care of children who have been abused. The initiative has been taken to the CAV through the NGO Save The Children, under the Noos Institute.
At the meeting of the Permanent Sectoral Commission on Child and Adolescent Care on Wednesday morning, they explained that the first step of the Barnahus project was to carry out a "comprehensive diagnosis". They have set up a technical working group to adapt the model to the “characteristics and singularities” of the CAV and will present the information report and recommendations compiled in mid-November. In the group, representatives from the areas of Justice, Psychosocial Teams, Health, Education, Security, Children's Bureaus and Ararteko have met.

Two other topics were also addressed at the meeting: The new Basque Law for the Protection of Children and Adolescents and the Basque strategy against violence for these groups. This strategy will focus on violence prevention and rapid intervention. Artolazabal stressed that the three projects are “about to face the final phase”.
