This explains the campaign theme from the Mastodon-eus administration account:
As we are a community that has grown thanks to the commitment to free and federated networks, to celebrate this milestone, we have launched the "Secure aukera, free networks" campaign. The objective is to collect adhesions to free networks and promote them as an ethical alternative to centralized platforms.
The Azkue Foundation, the collective Laboratorio 2.0, the Fundación PuntuEUS, and the companies Talaios Koop and iAmetza, with the collaboration of the hosting company Dinahosting, maintain this social network.
It is also maintained by users, as can already be read in the accession messages. Examples:
“Because it is essential to jointly consolidate the values and standards of the digital public square and the Basque country needs its own public square.”
“A joint social network, and at the same time, between individuals. All benefits are reserved exclusively for participants.”
“Because before the centralized technological giants, it is the creation of a public square close to and based on the community, created in Euskera for the community.”
The editor of this medium has also left his adherence with a simple message, in which the rules of the place seem appropriate, which is summarized in three points:
Mastodon.eus euskara eta euskal kulturaren komunitatearentzat sortutako Mastodon instantzia bat da. 2018an hauek sortua: Azkue Fundazioa, Dinahosting, iametza, Laborategia.eus, PuntuEUS eta Talaios Koop.
