The French police arrested six young people this morning in Urruña (Lapurdi), Hendaia (Lapurdi) and Baiona. According to Euskal Irratia, the Baiona prosecutor, Jerome Bourrier, has said that they are blamed for three issues: damage, attacks on the police and the attack on the driver of the Hendaia tourist train. The detention takes place around 6:00 hours and young people are transferred to the Baiona police station.
The Socialist Council of the Northern Basque Country has today convened, at 12:30 a.m., a concentration at the Baiona police station: "It is up to us to organize the political militancy in defence of political rights in an even more criminalised era." Other agents who have denounced the police operation are the EH Bai coalition, the Xuti Gazte group, the Askatasuna organization, the Iparra Hegoa association, the Aek of the Northern Basque Country, the Antifascist Network, the Selaurua Bet Etxepare, the Liceo Etxepare and EH.
This year marks the 51st anniversary of the United Nations proclamation of International Human Rights Day on 10 December. This date has become important in Euskal Herria and the Human Rights Observatory of Euskal Herria wants to offer some elements of reflection.
