Members of Seaska are chained to the Bordeaux Rectory to denounce the kidnapping of the exams of the Brebas
- Two buses left Wednesday morning from Bayonne to Bordeaux after the Rectory’s decision not to direct the Basque language studies in Brebeta. Several people chained themselves to the door of the Rectory to protest against linguistic discrimination and there were moments of tension with the police.
“The police approach Seaska members violently,” reports Basque Radio correspondent Ihezia Arrieta. They have threatened to use tear gas against the protesters and have been breaking up against the protesters since they arrived in Bordeaux.
In any case, they have not managed to get Seaska to carry their protest to their head. Four people have chained themselves to the door of the rectorate and four others in another area to express their opposition to the kidnapping of exams by the rectorate. The police have tried, unsuccessfully, to prevent such links. The members of Seaska have deployed four banners against linguistic discrimination and with messages “Brebeta in Basque”.
The parents who have come to protect them have been wearing colored T-shirts, each one representing their school. After the initial moments of tension, the situation has calmed down, but at 12.30 p.m. Basque Radio reported that they were still surrounded by police.
Basque Radio stations have received statements from Eñaut Elosegi, director of the Xalbador School, regarding the abduction of the exams: “This is a clear sign of contempt for us. It was a surprise that copies of the exams were hijacked. Two inspectors who don’t know Basque have conducted science studies and we are here to express our anger.”
