The third edition of the Cycling Tour organised by Sare will take place on 23, 24 and 25 July. This year, however, will be a special edition due to the obstacles and security measures that must be taken in the face of the situation generated by Covid-19. Therefore, the 2020 Cycling Tour will be composed of the different stages that will take place in three days; on July 23, the march from Lekunberri to Hernani, uniting Navarra and Gipuzkoa will take place. Finally, on July 25, there will be four stages of the four prisons in Euskal Herria to the capitals.
"This year is being particularly hard, both for the relatives and for the prisoners of Euskal Herria. Three months after COVID-19, relatives have had to pass without visiting it. It has been three very long months when children have not been able to visit their parents. Throughout this time, uncertainty has been the dominant feature in family members and prisoners, as well as the fear of the lack of hygiene and overcrowding in prisons. If that were not enough, the policy of distance has made things even harder and harder. Now, once the visits have been recovered, the relatives have to travel hundreds and thousands of kilometres again, at a time when the pandemic is still in place, risking life on the road," Sare said in the presentation of the march held this morning in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
"It is time for this situation to be brought to an end once and for all. It's time for prisoners to come to Euskal Herria and get home," Sare said.
This march is part of the Izan Bidea initiative, which aims to "continue to make the way towards the house of prisoners and exiles and towards coexistence and peace between Basque society".
