The President of the Congress, Jean-Michel Garat, and the coordinator, Maider Elcano, spoke to the Kazeta media. Garat points out that although the figures do not "explode" from one year to the next, year after year the number of readers attending the Conference is growing. This is because, according to the President, the presentation of books in Basque is "easier", as Basque publishers are currently more numerous. In the past, Garat has described the publication of books as "complicated" and if published it was seen as a "political gesture": "A lot of people told me that it was ETA stuff."

Elcano emphasizes that in this edition the program has been "enriched". Readers attending the Sara Conference had the opportunity to enjoy two days of varied activities: although on Sunday afternoon they had the singing of the Chouer Bayonne Pays Basque Bayonne choir, the literary-like period began on Monday morning with the book fair that took place from morning to afternoon. Among them, several book presentations and round tables were held; for example, in the presentation room Itxaro Borda, a member of the Basque Government and writer, took the floor, accompanied by Joseba Sarrionandia, Jabier Calcakorta and Battittu Coyos, each presenting a book.

In addition, on Monday the Media Library of Sara established a children’s corner in the town, where the little ones had the opportunity to see shows and participate in workshops.They had the workshop of Josiane Aguerre Valencia in the morning and the show of the Pontx clown in the afternoon. To close the conference, the Basque cultural institution, the Collection Network, the Sara Conference and the library of the Biblio64 Department have organized a "professional day" on Tuesday.The theme of Basque emigration to the Americas: a living history has been the subject of talks and workshops throughout the day, as well as a guided tour of the exhibition Traces of the Basques in the world.

"A must-attend event"

Garat believes that the Sara Writers’ Congress has become a “must-see”, a “culturally overweight” bridge: "It often happens that writers want to make the first presentation of their book at the Conference. That's great for me." Elcano highlights the creation of a "beautiful dynamic" with book fairs in the Northern Basque Country: "Each fair has its own peculiarities, each one has its own personality and we complement each other."
