The life of 24 large “A-marked” rolls stumbles on the Santa Ana road between Urruña and Ziburu, which means that they will be cut down the heel – it is the beginning of the word in French abattage. According to the association Santa Ana-Penditxene, created by the neighbors, it is not clear why they want to massacre the trees, but it seems that the administration wants to urbanize these rural roads because in the future there are real estate projects.
Neighbours have launched a campaign in which 1,600 signatures have already been collected on the platform Change.org against the cutting of oak and for protecting the ecosystem. The association says that a natural heritage will be destroyed and that there are few routes near the coast.
The issue of the salvation of the 24 Robles of Santa Ana has also become a symbol of the urban destruction suffered by the coast of Lapurdi: “It is essential to protect this beautiful place, as enough sacrifice has been made with A-63, Leclerc and the like,” explains the association on Facebook. Where are we going? On the Basque coast, construction decisions have to be reviewed... There are already enough homes, at least half of them are empty in three quarters of the year.”
They call on the municipalities of Urruña and Ziburu to become involved in their commitment to the environment.
