Trade unions say they will not leave only the Saharawi people
- In a hearing before the Polisario Front, they accused Morocco of having started a "new war" and ensured that the Sahrawi people responded "in legitimate self-defence". The mobilizations will be held this Saturday at noon in the towns and cities of the CAV.
The trade unions ELA, LAB, Steilas, ESK, CCOO, UGT, CNT and EHNE-Bizkaia signed a joint statement on Wednesday morning after meeting with representatives of the Polisario Front in Bilbao. The communiqué was read by Garbiñe Aranburu, of LAB, and by Loli García, of CCOO Euskadi. The trade unions have accused Morocco of being responsible for provoking the war, considering that "the Moroccan forces have violated the ceasefire agreement" by sending the military to the protests of the Sahrawi people. They claim that Morocco has imposed on the Sahrawi people “a new war” and that they will not leave the Sahrawi people alone. At 12:00 on Saturday, citizens have called to mobilize in the towns and cities of the CAV.
International and Spanish State
The trade unions criticize the international community, which for the past 45 years has done nothing to remedy the situation: “What happened is nothing more than a sign of the indifference of the international community.”
They have been even more critical of the attitude of the Spanish State in this conflict. They call for their historical responsibility for the situation of the “last African territory to be decolonized” to be addressed, pressing for the referendum on self-determination to be “immediately”.
