Called by Sare, a mosaic of 600 people has traveled San Sebastian
- Given the seriousness of the situation of Basque prisoners, it has urged the governments of France and Spain to develop another type of prison policy.
With white umbrella and under the motto "Resolution", about 600 people have participated in the mosaic that has built the Sare Herritarra platform, this Saturday at the La Concha beach in Donostiarra. Initially it was a manifestation and a mosaic, but due to the situation created by the coronavirus only the mosaic has been formed. The aim of the action has been to extend the requirement to develop a new prison policy. Representatives of EH Bildu, PNV, Podemos and the unions ELA and LAB, among otros.CCOO also supported Sare's action verbally, but it was not at the meeting.
Joseba Azkarraga and Inaxio Oiartzabal have denounced that the current prison policy is "a penitentiary policy of persecution and inhumane imprisonment." The situation of the pandemic has further worsened coexistence in prisons and has called on the Spanish and French Governments to put an end to this situation.
Network spokeswoman Bego Atxa mentioned what her demands are: to release prisoners with serious or incurable diseases, to end the policy of removal and to allow "a progression of degree leading to the start of the processes back home". Atxa has highlighted the harsh situation of prisoners living in Andalusia or Galicia and their families, emphasising that they have to travel 40 kilometres per minute that they can visit.
