This new measure aims to enhance the use of this collective public transport “to ensure daily mobility with a safe, reliable, convenient, economic and sustainable means of transport”. The person concerned must first deposit a security. Subscriptions depend on the type of travel you want to use: Commuter train, medium distance, high speed at medium distance or metric width. The deposit of the fertilisers ranges from EUR 10-20 and will be returned to the user after the payment is completed.

On 1 August, the Government of Spain approved a 100% subsidy for regular local and semi-distance passengers in order to deal with the price increases caused by the Ukrainian war. Therefore, once the bond is deposited, if the minimum travel of the subscription is made, Renfe will return the money to the user. To facilitate the return of the bond, Renfe advises using the credit or debit card to facilitate and expedite the process. It is important to keep the credit card or QR code, especially if you want to recover the warranty.

The Government of Spain has expressed its willingness to promote the use of public transport and to reduce the use of private vehicles, thus reducing energy dependence and carbon footprint.

Fertilisers shall be launched on 1 September and shall end on 31 December — except Avant fertilisers, which may be used until several days after purchase and until 31 January 2023.

Types of fertilisers

As explained above, there are four types of fertilizers, depending on the travel of the traveller. The information is available on the Renfe website.

The first type of compost is free of charge and is designed for local train users. It has a period of use from 1 September to 31 December and a security of EUR 10 must be deposited. If sixteen trips occur during these four months, the deposit will be returned to the user. It can be purchased in the Renfe Envirías application or in the windows or machines of the stations.

The second type of payment is also free of charge and is a mid-distance service payment. It also has a period of use from 1 September to 31 December, but the guarantee is EUR 20. If sixteen trips occur during these four months, the deposit will be returned to the user. The fertilizer can be purchased from the Renfe application, as well as on the web renfe.com, at station lockers or on machines.

The third type of fertilizer is the abovementioned Avant fertilizer, which allows you to get trips in the middle of price. Renfe has announced that it will keep the pre-existing fertilizers for the purchase of these trips, but at half the price. The above fertilisers are intended for medium-distance high-speed trains and are: Card Plus: Between 30 and 50 trips, round trip, always taking the same route between two stations. It has a validity of 90 days from the purchase, once the first 60 day trip has been completed. Normal Card Plus 10 and Students: 10 trips, roundtrip or roundtrip, always taking the same route between two stations. It is valid for 30 days from the purchase, once the first 20 days trip has been completed. And the last Plus Card 10-45: 10 trips, roundtrip or roundtrip, always taking the same route between two stations. Fertilisers may be purchased from 1 September on the usual routes: Renfe application, website renfe.com, window or station machines. It is valid for 45 days from purchase.

Finally, there are metric wide fertilizers, also free of charge. It also has a period of use from 1 September to 31 December and a security of EUR 10 for local trains and EUR 20 for the average distance. To achieve this, the ID card or telephone number will be recorded. Allows unlimited travel between any origin/destination of the area. If sixteen trips occur during these four months, the deposit will be returned to the user.
