Wells are an excellent didactic tool to talk to students about species, biodiversity, environment, environmental awareness, respect for the planet and the need for species conservation. As we commented in this report, they are a perfect natural laboratory to jump from classroom theory to practice and an enriching action to recover wetlands. In fact, wetlands are of great value from the point of view of biodiversity, but they are a scarce habitat, and if the creation of lagoons is the same “way to pay, in part, the human debt to nature”, they say from Aranzadi. In other European countries, the well network is a widespread initiative.

It is the students, teachers and volunteers who, under the direction of experts from Aranzadi, are responsible for performing the well in or near the center environment. The center then takes care of his care and evolution, but he is also visited by the herpetologists of Aranzadi. These wells also offer the possibility of guided tours, lectures and environmental workshops.

The School Pond Network has been presented at the Joxe Migel Barandiaran school in Ataun. In addition, they are part of the Txirrita network Herri Eskola, Umerri Herri Eskola, Gorbeia Eskola, Plaiaundi Institutua and the teaching faculty of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
