PSC wins elections in Catalonia, but ERC rules
- The PSC and ERC have been tied to one point, but tied to three points with a larger number of votes. JxCat was third in the Tyrrhine-Adriatic stage, 24 seconds away. The biggest loser has been Ciutadans, with a loss of 30 seats. Vox has made a strong breakthrough in the Catalan Parliament and the Cup has also had a great boom in the Congress of Deputies. The consequences of the pandemic have been obvious and participation has been the lowest in history: 53.5%.
The allocation of seats was as follows: PSC, with 33 seats; ERC, with 33; JxCat, with 32; Vox, with 11; Cup, with 9; In Comú, with 8; Ciutadans, with 6 and pp, with 3. The tied PSC and ERC, but the Socialists have taken Republicans almost two points more than the previous party, with 50,000 votes in difference.
Former Spanish Minister of Health Salvador Illa has managed to attract the majority of Spanish votes, which Ciutadans won in December 2017. That is true, the latter has achieved its worst result this Sunday, with a loss of 30 seats. It is hard to imagine a bigger blow, but in 2019 it was the same party that achieved it in Spain, losing 40 Members, dropping from 57 to 10.
In the context of independence, ERC has for the first time managed to advance JxCat, a political force supported by Carles Puigdemont. However, with the division of parties that the old CIU has had, it can be said that it has endured well, thinking that the one who is used to winning has to be tough for the third party. Despite the pandemic, leaving 400,000 votes on the road since 2017 has to do a lot of damage.
For the time being, it seems that Vox is consolidating itself as a strong trend throughout the state. The Cup has also doubled its results from 4 to 9 seats (10 in 2010). In Comú have endured, but in view of the decrease that has occurred, the PP maintains its downward trend by losing one seat.
President Aragonès
Everything points out that Pere Aragonès will be the ERC candidate, although it is not yet clear what formula, perhaps with the support of JxCat and the abstention of the Cup. Salvador Illa had also announced that if he won he would present himself to the investiture, but he has no chance to leave.
For the first time in history, the independence vote has exceeded 50 per cent, but it must be borne in mind that, apparently, abstention has affected him more than the unionist independence vote. However, the trend is clear and independence achieved for the third time the absolute majority, with 70 seats in 2015, 72 in 2017 and 74 today.
