American football players continue to protest against racism in the United States
- Two Miami Dolphins players have knelt as a protest when they hear the American hymn, while a third player from the same team has raised their fist. In the last two years, anti-racism gestures in professional sport have multiplied in the United States.
All the owners of the American Football Association (NFL) of the United States have just reached an agreement that they should stand up when the American hymn sounds. The player who fails to do so will be fined. Another option is to stay in the locker room when the hymn sounds.
The protest that Colin Kaepernick started is still alive after two years. After several videos were released in which black people were shot without police weapons, a wave of racist protests was unleashed in the United States.
Originally, Kaepernick decided not to get out of the bank, but on 22 September 2016 he kneeled down for the first time to report police abuse and racism. After the match he set out his position: “I will not proudly rise from the bank in the hymn of a country that tramples black and black people.”
U.S. President Donald Trump strongly criticized the player and said what he had done was against the homeland. He also pointed out that all those who do should be expelled from the NFL. However, several teams let their players behave as they wish and basketball and baseball players joined the protest after hearing Trump’s statements. Among them, Tom Brady, the famous player who once declared himself a friend of Trump.
