Several neighbors have concentrated in front of the headquarters of Zabaleta Street of the Church of Gipuzkoa in protest the transformation of the building into an aparthotel.

They have then read the statement of the concentration:

WANT TO MAKE A HOTEL MORE HERE!

From the press of November 10, the Bishop of Donostia-San Sebastián who runs Munilla wants to turn this building, located on Zabaleta Street, 5, into a hotel. In particular, it is intended to open 26 holiday apartments with a hotel license and a bar. The City Council has already given its consent to further expand the tourist offer of the city and the neighbourhood. As we have seen later, they also want to do the same with another building in the center.

Over the past five years, more than 26 hotels in the city have been authorized. With the increase in tourist apartments and pensions, thousands of rooms have been created for tourist use. Many of these projects have been created by investors who put the business first to the lives of the neighbors, reducing land or heritage, hindering access to housing and interpreting the legality as they desire. In addition to the protests, serious consequences are occurring on the part of the security forces. Price increases make it difficult for us to live in our neighbourhoods.

The Gros neighborhood is not safe. The problem is that the Old Party has only been selling it to us for a couple of months, but the impact of turistification is increasing. In the name of “sustainable” tourism, to more neighborhoods, the postal service that enriches the richest and consumes its inhabitants is expanding for more months.

Once again, speculation does not let the city live. The Donostians take us out of the city, put our business before our lives. We are therefore expressing our concern and calling for this project to be halted.
