This week workers in the residences of Hego Euskal Herria have days of strike. The conventions of each territory are different, and therefore also the situation and demands. All workers agree, however, that precariousness will not cease until a public system worthy of vigilance is reached.

The unions LAB, ELA and UGT have organized the strike in Navarra on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They are calling for a unified agreement to be finally concluded, because the negotiations are blocked.

In Bizkaia LAB has called the strike for seven days, being the first day on Wednesday. They have concentrated in front of the Member to denounce that it is she who privatises the monitoring system. The union explains that the fall of the sector in private property is linked to precariousness: among other things, private workers charge half of the public wages.

LAB and ELA organize a strike in nursing homes on Wednesday and Thursday in Álava. The latter praised the “broad continuity” of the strike, especially in private residences, although the protest has greatly reduced the minimum services. In some jobs these minimum services are 50% and 70%. In addition to decent wages, they demand that ratios be lowered so that residents have enough attention.

On the other hand, there have been no days of strike in Gipuzkoa, but LAB has shown its intention to continue fighting at the meeting held on Wednesday in San Sebastian. Last July the UGT trade union signed an agreement for the care sector, but the Abertzale trade union considers that this agreement “has made the situation worse”. It explains that it prevents collective bargaining, as the UGT has an 8% representation in the sector. It adds that it violates the right to strike, as it specifies minimum services of 100%.
