A group of 60 people met this weekend in Baiona in response to the call for a "special" congress to define new initiatives. Today, the first of the agreed mobilizations has been announced: on 19 December, the initiative of “civil disobedience in favour of Basque prisoners” will be carried out, in line with the “massive and determined” and the “peaceful philosophy”. Pacifists have anticipated that hundreds of volunteers will be needed to carry out this “strong action”, which “will be willing to offer all day, and more”. Further information will be provided on the “necessary appointments and equipment”. The call coincides with the fourth anniversary of the Luhuso police operation, in which Istanbul remained in detention.
Mobilization is a “determined and permanent” cycle
Mobilization is the first step in a new cycle. They have warned that the people gathered on Saturday, including institutional representatives and elected officials, have decided to set in motion a “determined and permanent citizen mobilization” that will grow in the coming months until the “political blockade and emergency measures suffered by Basque prisoners.” The Bakegileak Group, considering that Paris "remains unheard" and that "it is time for the public authorities to enter the process", has agreed to "expand the field of interpellation" and "act harder" in Euskal Herria and "beyond".
The pacifists believe that the blockade of prisoners "hampers peace and coexistence": “After 10 years of unilateralism that have seen the ultimate end of the armed struggle, total and unconditional disarmament and the dissolution of ETA, states do not respond to the challenges.”
