The Network of Precarious Young People of Vitoria-Gasteiz, created last December, faces the challenge of responding collectively to the process of precariousness that young people experience. In the conference, organized for January 18, they will reflect on the need to "take precariousness to the table" and organize themselves against precariousness, understanding that collective problems need a collective response.
This is the first public initiative organised by the GPS and which deepens the functioning of the network and tackles new forms of organisation against precariousness. The GPS was born to identify the different problems and deal with the "misery" suffered by young people in the world of work, taking into account the specificity of each. Like the feminist movement, the movement of pensioners or some sectoral betse struggles, the young people of Vitoria-Gasteiz want to put the grain in the "fight against exploitation", turning GPS into a meeting point of different sensibilities and seeking collective solutions.
Eleven examples of the ongoing precariousness process in youth employment have been put on the table: "temporality, duals, unpaid practices, futureless scholarships, gender gap, forced overtime, studies and non-compatibilities of employment, 'flexibility' hours, availability 24 hours, non-hiring..." The transformation of these exploitative situations into individual problems, lack of knowledge of labour rights and lack of collective awareness mean that no tools are available to deal with all this.
