Prefeta bans lockdown tomorrow in Bake Bidea
- On Saturday Bake Bidea called to block Ipar Euskal Herria. Dozens of citizens and structures have joined the so-called blockade and are expected to affect different roads and initiatives. In response, Eric Spitz, representative of the French State, decided to ban the initiative. At the same time, Bake Bidea has decided to maintain the protest.
Last June, Bake Bidea announced the day of the blockade to call for the release of Jakes Esnal and Ion Parot Labortane prisoners and denounce a permanent attitude against the French Public Prosecutor’s Office. "We will create tension to draw attention," they pointed out on the day the initiative was presented. Every day the environment has been heated and, finally, the prefet Eric Spitz decides to ban the blockade. In spite of everything, Bake Bidea has confirmed that he is maintaining his protest. The structure that is committed to the peace process is intended to block the road network throughout the Northern Basque Country and to "move Paris".
The peacemakers are working on the preparation of the initiative, to which dozens of citizens will join so that the blockades can be carried out tomorrow. Ten quotations have been arranged in Baiona, Biarritz, Bidart, Pausu, Ziburu, Azkain, Ezpeleta, Donibane Garazi and Maule.
Mediabask has published that they have sent information on the blockade and its cause to public institutions and services in the Northern Basque Country, to campsites or to hotel owners. On the one hand, they should be able to adapt their activity and, on the other, they should be invited to make the initiative known. And there are many who have taken action and the blockade should work tomorrow.
Breaks normal
The Baiona Chamber of Commerce and Industry has made the initiative known to companies, recommending that they avoid travel on Saturday. They report that the eight swimming pools managed by the Basque College of Cities will remain closed because the “normal operating conditions” cannot be “guaranteed”. Jean-René Etchegaray, neighbour of Baiona, decides to bring the market forward from Saturday to Friday. Anaiz Funosas, spokesman for Bake Bidea, told Mediabask that they have received calls from campsites asking about the initiative and that the tourist office is informing tourists that Saturday is a day of lockdown. “The responsible attitude shown by different sectors has gladly surprised us,” he said.

The representative of the French State also extends the threat of punishment: "Everything will be filmed and judicialized. The license plates and identities will be transferred to the Baiona prosecutor, who will certainly demonstrate great rigor in the name of freedom of movement". It documents the decision to ban the blockade. In spite of everything, Bake Bidea keeps tomorrow and holds a press conference at the end of the afternoon.
Prosecutor against Esnal and Parot
The French Public Prosecutor's Office has organised Bake Bidea and its "peacemakers", in order to denounce and mobilise the Public Prosecutor's attitude towards the Esnal and Parot prisoners. Two robbers have been imprisoned for 32 years and, although the judges have defended parole, the prosecutor is opposed. On Thursday, they last studied their case at the Paris Call Court and the Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office has again called for it to be kept in prison.
The agreement is expected to be communicated on 22 September.
