The Portuguese have taught us to bravely confront COVID-19
- Spain has recorded up to 30 April 519 deaths per million inhabitants, while France has recorded 369... Portugal had only 95 deaths. Only 17.5% of the victims we have suffered from the Basques, or if you will, the Basques killed by the coronavirus have been the Portuguese for 5.6. What did they do better than us?
In the image of the Spaniards, the Portuguese people, besides being almost unknown, are persecuted by the raking of advances and wealth. There is nothing to say in the opinion of Basque citizenship: Who would believe that they have a better health system than we do, that they approach our industrial power, our research and development infrastructures? And yet, instead of looking at Germany, it would not have been wrong if, since the beginning of March, we had looked at these Portuguese "poor": in all the data that we can show the Basques – and the Spaniards and the French – before the coronavirus we have ahead of us the Portuguese.

Portugal had accumulated by 30 April 23,505 positive infections and 973 deaths. Thus, considering that it has 10.5 million inhabitants, in Portugal 95 people have died per million inhabitants (in the Basque Country, 451). In Madeira (it is true that there is also the island) one man has not died of coronavirus, one Alentejón has died and only twelve in the Algarve. The fact is that Portugal entered the State of Alarm with Spain and yet on the same day that Spain will allow its adult citizens to walk for an hour a day starting to take the first steps to speed up the confinement (not the alarm), on 2 May, Portugal will eliminate its State of Alarm. How did he do that?
It has been said that COVID-19 arrived in Portugal a little later than in Spain, and it will be true, but the coronavirus also arrived later in France and that delay has not served to put fences to the Macron government in the black wave. Portugal has put Spain and France ahead, at least in two factors. On the one hand, emergency measures have been taken more quickly: By the time the State of Alarm was declared, on March 12, Spain recorded 112 deaths, Euskal Herria 13 but Portugal none.
The second factor, correctly developed by the Portuguese people, has been the massive use of tests to detect the virus. Several media outlets have pointed out that the Lisbon Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) has since mid-March done a great deal of work to put PCR tests in the hands of the Portuguese authorities, which are less rapid but more reliable than others. Finally, as of March 26, all those with symptoms of coronavirus have been tested in Portugal. Nothing to do with what has been seen in Irun as in Hendaia... and unfortunately with what we are still suffering.

The IMM leaders recalled that on 13 March, when COVID-19 killed the first person in Portugal, they were working to create a CPA following the rules of the World Health Organization and that two days later they managed to have it ready: There was no need to invent anything. The reagents for these kits are produced by Portuguese companies. And right now there are 15 research centers that are preparing PCR tests, plus private labs that are working on it."
The scientists pressured the government so that the tests could be carried out on the whole population: "We had, for example, Italy or Korea, and all the scientists agreed on what the road should be: to test the whole world massively." And so, in the silence of the wealthiest in Europe, and without realizing those who believe they live as rich, Portugal became one of the countries in the world that has most tested its population with coronavirus.
