By the end of the year, the supermarket chain Ekoplaza will open its 74 branches in the Netherlands.
New compostable biological materials will be tested and traditional materials such as glass, metal or cardboard will be used.
Aisle products will also have a "non-plastic" label which will help shoppers to easily identify those products that do not have plastic packaging.
According to the environmental group Plastic Planet, “it’s been a historic time to fight plastic pollution and we ask British supermarkets to follow the example of Ecoplaza.”
