Fascist painted against Irantzu Varela and 'Pikara Magazine'
- Painted falangists have appeared in the place that Pikara Magazine and Faktoria Lila have in Bilbao. One of them is number 52, which refers to the representatives that the fascist party Vox has achieved in the last elections to the Congress of Spain. “This aggression poses a direct threat to freedom of the press and freedom of expression,” said the feminist media.
Feminist media Pikara Magazine and communicator and activist Irantzu Varela have denounced that the site they share in Bilbao has been painted again this Tuesday morning. They have described what has happened as a “chauvinist and fascist aggression” and have recalled that this is not the first time they have suffered such a situation: two weeks ago the magazine suffered a similar attack and was the fifth suffered by Irantzu Varela, a member of Faktoria Lila.
It was also on this occasion a Falangist party that signed the painting, the NPC, the young people of National Democracy. Vox writes one of his points in the Spanish electoral program: “Violence has no gender.” Another example is number 52, which refers to the delegates that this party has won in the Congress of Deputies this Sunday. One of the paintings is also directed directly to Irantzu Varela.
“We believe that these attacks on Irantzu Varela have been done to the entire feminist movement,” said Pikara Magazine. According to the media, the fascists have put Varela in the spotlight because he is a public character. “In addition, these painted in a media are an attack on freedom of expression.”
Having recalled that in the past they have also suffered similar attacks, they have stressed that the persecution is not limited to graffiti, but, as an example, they point to the attacks that Varela and some members of the magazine have suffered on Twitter.
“On social media we have proposed the hashtag #APorTodos, we are clear that this attack has been suffered by us but is aimed at all,” said Pikara Magazine members. “In addition, we will not stop writing, creating, thinking, building the network. We will face this because they want to keep us quiet.”
