On 22 March, 35 years have passed since the death of the members of the Autonomous Anti-Capitalist Commandos Dionisio Aizpuru Kurro and Pedro Mari Isart Pelitxo de Azpeitia and the non-profit Rafael delas Txapas and José María Isidro Izura Pelu. As every year, relatives and friends of the deceased in the ambush of Pasaia have prepared a series of activities on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary. The events were presented last Thursday at the Basazabal Palace in Azpeitia, where the sisters of Arantxa, Lurdes and Beatriz Isart Pelitxo, the brother of Pello Aizpuru KURRO and members of the popular initiative Argitu de Pasaia, Xanet Esnaola and Yuri Agirre were present.
This year, the programme they have prepared on the occasion of the celebration of this anniversary will have a particularity. In fact, in addition to denouncing what happened in Pasaia, it is intended to "put on the table some cases of state violence that have suffered various situations". That is why the programme will recall some of the cases of people killed by state violence in Iraq. The cases and people you will remember are: Txiki and Otaegi, the workers killed by the police on 3 March 1976 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Germán Rodríguez, killed by Spanish security forces in the Sanfermines of 1978, Joxe Arrangi, killed by torture, Ramón Oñederra Kattu, from Azgurkoitia, the first killed by the GAL, Josu Mueturia.
The central event of the anniversary of the Pasaia Trap will take place this Saturday, at 19:00 pm, in the Market Square, where relatives of these people killed by state violence, as well as the musician Eñaut Elorrieta, will meet.
According to Esnaola, in the context of the political conflict in Euskal Herria, "the continuous violations of human rights have been a great tragedy for thousands of families, a tragedy that must be acknowledged, accepted and repaired in its entirety". "No case can be relegated to the sack of oblivion; all victims of all parties must be acknowledged," he added.
Esnaola also recalled the research carried out by the Egiari Zor Foundation. According to this study, the deaths caused by state agents add up to 219, the deaths caused by "dirty war" 78, the deaths caused by the application of exceptional political measures rise to 63 and the deaths caused by fascist and far-right attacks to four. Only 82 of the 364 Spanish citizens killed by Spanish state violence received "some kind of official recognition", that is, 22.5% of the Spaniards. "Therefore, four out of five victims have not received any statement," he said. In addition, according to the study on torture, led by the forensic doctor Paco Etxeberria at the request of the Basque Government, from 1960 to the present there are more than four thousand cases of torture, of which only 1 per cent have been recognized.
Destination of the United Nations
Arantxa Isarte highlighted "the solidarity and affection" he has received "in these long years" and explained what the judicial route of the Ambush of Pasaia is. He recalled that all Spanish legal remedies are exhausted: "As long as no new evidence appears, the case is filed. Although the archive admitted the existence of "signs of murder", in all these years "little has been done to identify and condemn those responsible". Isarte thanked the support and help offered by the Azpeitia City Hall during the opening of the court.
Isarte indicated that, although the Spanish way is exhausted, other routes are being studied: Address the United Nations Institutions. "As long as the massacre in Pasaia Bay is not acknowledged, we will continue to work hard, we will not be resigned."
With the title 'Eleven cases, the same cry', an exhibition has been organized that will remember the ambush of Pasaia and the cases cited. The sample can be visited until the next day 29, in the exhibition hall of the Foral Route. Working days will open from 18:00 to 20:00 hours and weekends from 12:00 to 14:00 hours.
Today, Friday, the traditional floral offering will be held in the monolith located behind the tower house Emparan, from 19:00.
