Florida court confirms Pablo Ibar's life imprisonment sentence
- The appeal by the defence Pablo Ibar to suspend the life sentence he presented last February has come at a faster rate than expected. The Florida Fourth District Judicial Appeal has rejected all defense arguments and must continue to serve a sentence.
The Pablo Ibar case is well known in the Basque Country, as his family and his defence consider that the court that convicted him did not have enough to decide this test and that from the moment he was convicted they are trying to prove it very strongly. Ibarri was charged with three killings in Broward County in Florida in 1994 and sentenced to death in 2000. After sixteen years on death row, in 2016 the Florida Supreme Court decreed that the trial should not be held with all guarantees and that it should be repeated. In 2019 the trial is repeated and Ibar is once again found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Valley says that it is innocent, calls for a new trial and the appeal now rejected sought it. In this appeal, Ibar's defence pointed out that he had submitted twelve reasons to uphold that innocence, but reported that only one was examined by the court. The Hearing has examined the position of a jury of the jury which at the time issued the sanction, as it expressed its regret at the judgment given. The sanction or absolution will require the agreement of all jurors.
The defence is now being raised as to whether he will appeal to the Florida Supreme Court, but he says that the current ruling does not make it easier because the court has handed down the judgment in one case. The defence will therefore ask you to give an opinion on the other eleven issues, under which you may transfer the judgment to the Supreme Court.
