Four parties, representing 68 of the 75 seats in the Gasteiz Parliament, have made a joint statement on Thursday denouncing the situation of journalist Pablo González.

The Polish courts consider that the provisional prison is being abused and express their concern about the situation in González. This week the Prezemsyl district court decided to extend for a further three months the provisional prison of a Basque journalist who has been imprisoned for three months. ARGIA has been able to confirm with his family that they will keep him under the same conditions: without visits or telephone calls to his family.

They also urge the Government of Spain to take all necessary steps to ensure that Pablo González ' s rights are respected and that the matter is given every assurance.

Joseba Díez Antxustegi (PNV), Jasone Agirre (EH Bildu), Miren Gallastegi (PSE) and Miren Gorrotxategi (EP-IU) have read the statement. The political group PP+Cs has not joined. These four parties, however, account for 90% of parliamentary seats.

They have recalled that "The Basque journalist Pablo González has been doing important professional work in various media, both in Euskal Herria and in international media, for years, and accounts for the many realities and conflicts that exist in Europe and in the world". They added that their arrest is "bad news" from the point of view of the press and freedom of information.

Pablo González is a 40-year-old journalist born in Russia and residing in Nabarniz (Bizkaia). In Poland he is at risk of being sentenced to ten years in prison for performing a journalism. This report has just explained who he is and what has happened to him in detention.
