For the third year, more than a hundred peninsular organizations have joined forces and organized a caravan to denounce human rights violations at Europe’s borders. The Widening Borders Caravan will depart this year to Italy to "denounce the murderous xenophobic policies and the criminalization of solidarity". The trip runs from July 13th to 22nd.
In 2016, the caravan visited Greece to denounce the EU-Turkey pact and proclaimed "safe transit and dignified reception" for those fleeing the Syrian war. Meanwhile, in 2017, the caravan organized in Melilla denounced the barriers with concertina and the centers of internment of foreigners, which also put on the table the labor exploitation of workers between borders and the agreements of externalization of borders with Morocco.
This year, on 13 July, around 300 people will travel to southern Italy from the Basque Country and other parts of the state. You will visit the borders of Ventimiglia, Sicily and Riace. From Vitoria-Gasteiz, the caravan Extender Frontiers will depart from the Europa Congress Centre at 08:45.
