Create a public health platform in Barakaldo
- Most unions, some feminist and ecologist groups, and a significant number of neighborhood associations have created the BOPA platform, Barakaldo in favor of Public Health, in defense of a public health system, worthy and of quality.
The platform was created by the unions ELA, LAB, SATSE, CCOO, UGT, STEILAS, CGT, ESK and CNT. They have joined forces against the reduction of working hours, the precariousness of work, the lack of investment and the privatization of services and seek to coordinate with other similar initiatives that have emerged in other municipalities.
Although reduction policies affect Osakidetza as a whole, they want to stress that primary care (75% of total health care) has become a "critical and unsustainable" situation due to "neglect and lack of investment". The measures implemented by the Basque Government aim to fatten "public health slows down and the whim of private health". Along with the disappearance of the services of the health centers and public hospitals, the increase of consultations and clinics of private health insurance stands out.
They list some of the consequences of the "government withdrawal": Reduction of the times of the health centers and closure of the Continuous Care Points at night; implementation of telephone care to the detriment of in-person care, although this is essential to make a good diagnosis; expansion of waiting lists; non-medical consultations; telematic consultations, especially increasing the digital gap affecting vulnerable people, especially the elderly, with functional diversity.
