Ondarroan in Spanish?

The ELA union has asked the City Council of Ondarroa to define the list of jobs to be translated from Basque to Spanish. And until this is done, the union will not participate in the meetings organized by the City Council.
How can this be understood? The City Council of Ondarroa is part of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Municipalities of Uema, which until now has functioned exclusively in Basque. Showing that the administration can only work in Basque, and acting in an exemplary way in front of those who say otherwise. It’s not just a matter of drawing attention to people. The municipalities of Uema are carrying out a differentiated work of Basques in the internal circuits of the City Council, which, for those of us who work in the normalization of the Basque language, is an indispensable step.
ELA also defines itself as an indispensable agent for the normalization of the use of the Basque language in a paper published on its website on January 31. In May 2017, it also signed the Protocol for the Guarantee of Linguistic Rights, citing among the reasons why it includes specific measures aimed at guaranteeing the linguistic rights of workers and that they have a contribution to make in this area.
It is clear, yes, in which direction they want to make contributions with this type of attitude, which is a violation of the linguistic rights of the workers, instead of guaranteeing them. Otherwise, what is the demand or condition placed on the City Council? Is it not the right of workers and citizens to do so without hindrance if they want to act in Basque?
On December 3 of last year, in the note published by the union on the occasion of the Basque Language Day, they say: “There are no resources in the administrations so that both workers and citizens can speak Basque”, and here, in the places where the resources are placed, the ELA itself is the first to put obstacles.
There is something to think about these games based on interests at the expense of the Basque language. If we are to be active agents in the normalization of language, it is necessary to abandon this type of attitude and leave the way free for those who work, both citizens’ and workers’ rights, to be respected once and for all.
