A replica of the Oma Forest for its poor state
- The Provincial Council of Bizkaia, with the approval of the artist’s family who painted the Ibarrola forest, has announced that it will carry out replicas of Ibarrola trees in the vicinity of the current forest. In fact, the trees in the original forest are dying, because of the brown ribbon disease and its age.
In addition to Ibarrola's family, the Member's measure has been approved by a committee of experts. As far as the original forest is concerned, areas with no risk of falling will be kept open and the rest of the areas with native species will be repopulated.
The MEP of Bizkaia, Unai Rementeria, wished to stress the importance of the forest in Bizkaia and also described it as a "symbol". Therefore, in order to preserve the work of Agustín Ibarrola, it is intended to maintain the works, even if it is in another area.
