Shabaka Hutchings produced last year the album We Out Here, which brings together the sound of London, and in which you will find – in addition to Hutchings and García – the main references of this scene: Theon Cross, Moses Boyd, Ezra Collective, Kokoroko, Joe Armond Jones, Triforce and Maisha (perhaps missing Yazz Ahmed and Kamaal Williams). Composed of nine songs, García collaborates in five of them – everyone wants their elegance. Musicians help each other, exploring new paths together.
Last night we had the opportunity to enjoy the Jazzaldia of Vitoria with a great concert of hours and a half duration. Strength and softness, trance and spiritualism, dance and rhythm, virtuosity and silence. Even though the Main Theatre in Vitoria-Gasteiz is not full at all, applause and applause fill the room behind each musician’s own.
Sam ‘Barrel’ on the Jones battery, specifically playing and funny. Daniel Casimir based on the amplified, robust and round contraband. JOE Armond Jones isats piano and Rhodesire elegant, dangerous and elegant. And Nubya García, star. The silence, in addition to taking good advantage of it, goes from the recordings of the tenor to the undertones, hitting the notes that few people get. It features quick notes sequences, in the style of the classics, and holds them along and along, in the most beautiful stresses and harmonies.
Make beautiful pieces of spiritual modal jazz, which can be close to the hard bop, suddenly introduce you to Jamaican rhythms and Afrobeat, and hip hop followed. And without moving away from the foundations of jazz, like we're finding a contemporary Coltrane.
All these new London musicians have left Tomorrow’s Warriors school. It's a school for teenagers to learn jazz for free, with the suspicion that jazz is discriminatory from the standpoint of class, gender and race, to offer them an alternative. There is no future without infrastructure.
They've started to play games with electronics, and thanks to this mix of styles, a style that's credited with elitism is becoming popular. Although it seems strange to the Basques, jazz is outside summer festivals, and it's related to popular culture, clubs and youth.
