Who takes care of the public school?
- A few months ago, I read another opinion article with the same title in Berria. Since then I have asked myself the same question. That letter denounced chaos and neglect with the delegation.
The complaint of substitute teachers was read on social networks and lived in schools. In the trade unions there was a fire on the phones and some political parties asked the education department to give instructions to end the strike.
For the Basque Government, it was the workers’ fault, it is and will be, how not? They say we take a lot of casualties and we can't manage all of that. They have managed to miss the bad system of replacements of previous years.
Nobody in public education is going to face it. With the motto of last year we took a photo and it is now. Is that taking care of the public school?
Those days passed, but the worry is still there. In recent weeks I have heard the presidents and representatives of the concerted centres defend their projects in different media and forums. The work and public presence of those responsible increases dramatically at the beginning of the year. It's normal, because next year's license plates are at stake. Time of marketing, there is nothing more to see the ads of the media or the lot of posters that are put on the streets of our town... However, in this commercialized education, we consider it normal for a school to install advertising posters every 10 meters.
But in public education, there's no one to face. With the motto of last year we took a photo and it is now. Is that taking care of the public school? Who then defends the name and existence of the public school? In some cases there is someone from the Steilas union, a public school platform or an EHIGE and with the best will they do incredible work. But it's not their job.
Why isn't there anyone doing that job? The administration has a lot of political and technical representatives of education. In the lake and in the territorial delegations there are a lot of people to manage the sector, but you see little will, I would say little motivation. I don't have data, it's what I know around me, and the proposal goes to anyone who wants to investigate this. Where do people with responsibility in the public education system lead their children? Make the list of parliamentarians, senior officials of the government, the opposition, the administration, the territorial delegates, the inspectors, the education technicians, the mayors of the villages where there is a public centre, the education councillors...

Many representatives of different political parties claim to be in favour of public education, but do not do the necessary maintenance or reform works in public school buildings, nor do they provide the appropriate material or personal means to carry out the different school projects.
Those who do not allow the development of the Basque public school are not only in Paris or in Madrid, but also in the Basque Country. They don't care about the quality of public education, because they know that their sons and daughters aren't going to be there.
