In this desire to reduce risks, we have gone from a natural process to a disease that needs to be treated in the hospital, which has led us to dispense with the possibility of living a birth that has occurred in the intimacy of the home, protected by people of confidence and without putting limits on the impulses of the body. Studies indicate that, in cases of low-risk pregnancy, if appropriate measures are taken and a group of professionals are available, domestic births do not pose a greater risk than hospital births. So, instead of responding with fear to the pregnant woman, why don't we offer you all the information? It is a safe process with the professionals and, fortunately, we have the resources offered by the hospital to be able to use it if the case requires. By this I do not mean that home birth is better than childbirth in the hospital, what I claim is the right of every woman to decide freely.

Following a speech from the midwives on the skirts, I understood that I could give birth at home with a low risk. I was young and healthy, I took great care of myself during pregnancy, I was physically and mentally strong, and it was the best help my partner could have. I was well informed, I knew the dangers, as well as the midwives who would serve me. I knew her project and I saw that they were qualified professionals. I was the first one I wanted my daughter to be born smoothly. Does anybody question that?

Unfortunately, the possibility of living at home a magical and beautiful process, which is childbirth, today is a privilege in our country and in the Spanish State. While in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, France, Austria, New Zealand, Canada or part of the State of Washington is an option funded by the Health System, here is an economic effort within reach of a few, although hospitalization in Public Health has been seen to cost less than hospital delivery.

I am the doctor, a worker who enjoys a great deal of his work in the hospital and declared a user of medicines and technology in the fight against the disease. But the tools we have are to use them responsibly and in the necessary cases and fear is not one of those cases. I would say that ignorance and lack of information are the main causes of many people (including professionals, or especially) refusing to give birth to domestic births.

Finally, I encourage you to inform you, woman. Before questioning your ability, report before being afraid of childbirth out of the hospital and criticize other women. Sowing where it gives you security and with the people that make you feel protected, the important thing is for your little one to come well, but once informed and thoughtful, let it be the decision you make, not the one that imposes fears and prejudices. Believe in yourself.
