One of the world's leading thinkers, Noam Chomsky, has signed Torture, suppose that the deadline for convening the demonstration to be held on 25 June in Pamplona, in which he calls for recognition, reparation and the "guarantee that it will not happen again", promoted by the Navarra Tortured Network.
More than 1,000 people tortured in Navarre will call for reparation at the demonstration, just before International Day for the Protection of Victims of Torture, and the mobilisation has already received the support of many agents: Geroa Bai, EH Bildu, Ezkerra, Podemos, CCOO, ELA, LAB...
Now, 200 Navarros artists have joined the manifesto. According to the Network of Torturados de Navarra, "this is a spectacular sample of what the culture of Navarra is", both adults and young, incipient and experienced. Among them are the veteran sculptor and painter Juan Gorriti and the young bertsolari Sarai Robles; the filmmakers Montxo Armendariz and Aitor and Amaia Merino; the editors Jose Mari Esparza or Ane Eslava; the artist Dora Salazar; or the musicians Aurora Beltran and Tonino tar Caratone.
In addition, the text includes the signing of personalities from the Basque Country and the world outside Navarre. For example, musicians Lluis Llach, Fermin Muguruza, Sorkun Rubio or Ines Osinaga, actresses Itziar Ituño and Willy Toledo; historians Belen Gopegui, Harkaitz Cano, Ramón Saizarbitoria and Kirmen Uribe; or Mario Portedela. The list is extensive and varied, with international awards such as the Pulitzer or the World Press Photo, the Benjamin Franklin medal and the like.
The organizers say that "until now in Navarre a mobilization has never received the support of this importance" and thank them for their collaboration from their artistic discipline and their "cultural position" against torture.
The demonstration will start on Saturday at 18:00 in the afternoon of the Pamplona bus station.
