Mikel Petrirena, Uxue Sorauren and Marian Pérez, representatives of the Bataila de Noain association, have explained that they will delay the celebration of the anniversary of the Battle of Noain. At the press conference on 22 June, they pointed out that there are three possible dates, but they will not make them public. The main reason for changing the date is not to fall into the VOX provocation desires.
The representatives of the association explained that they accepted the agreement of the Salinas plenary in Pamplona. They have not been given permission for land use, but they say it is understandable, because in Salinas they do not have the means to control the situation that would occur if both parties held the event. On the other hand, they have explained that they do not want to help the radical right to spread their message, and that is the main reason why the act is delayed. They have pointed out that VOX wanted to use the act it wanted to celebrate on its anniversary for “provocation”, to make a “revisionist reading” of history and gain political notoriety.
According to the representatives of the association, VOX intends to deprive them of freedom of expression by stopping the commemorative act they have organized since 1991, and with these provocations they denounce that the Battle of Noain would be repeated for the second time. They have called for collaboration to create a discourse closer to reality and “close open wounds for 500 years”.
As the media has gathered Navarra.com, the president of VOX in Navarra, Emilio Jiménez Román, has denied the desire for provocation that his event has. The aim of his act is to show “the misreading of the battle made by separatist nationalism.” Although the party will not take any action on the battlefield, the writer Fernando Vaquero will carry out a historical review of the battle at the Monument to the Salinas and at twelve and a half noon they have organized a round table at the Hotel Zenit in Galaria.
