Nazario Luque Vera (Castilleja del Campo, Sevilla, 1944) is one of the most prestigious counter-cultural artists in the world of Spanish comics. After studying Philosophy and Literature in Seville, in the early 1970s he settled in Barcelona and took his first steps in the world of underground comics. In it he founded the group El Rrollo, made up of artists such as Javier Mariscal, Farry and Pepich, among others, and edited and distributed his own comics. At that time he published works such as San Reprimony, Sabadete and Purita, among others. In the 1980s, he started collaborating with El Víbora magazine, where he published most of his comics. One of them is Anarcoma, a Travesti detective who moves in the petty Barcelona of the 70s and 80s.
He also collaborated with other European journals, such as Makoki. In the latter he published Ali Babá and the 40 puppets, considered his top work, with which he ended his career in the world of comics. From that moment on, it is dedicated to painting, until 2008. He's now making parts of his autobiography and making photos.
Zuloa Bookstore
The Zuloa bookstore is a special place in the world of comics, inside and outside Vitoria-Gasteiz. In 1987, this ideal of a new concept of bookstore was opened, in which the different cultural proposals of the city were to be present. In 1998 he was moved to 21 Correría Street and has since remained there, led by Txintxu San Martín and Sara Elías. Specialized in the world of comics, it is a cultural reference both for its offer and for the activities carried out in it, since it organizes exhibitions and presentations of comics, books and records, among otros.Desde its opening, has obtained important awards such as the Prize of the Ministry of Education and Culture for the Best Work of Cultural Diffusion realized by the Bookstores in 1989 and the Prize of Dynamization of 2015.
Raquel Corcoles
The poster of this year's Comic Fair was made by Raquel Córcoles (Reus, 1985). The Catalan author started his career in the world of comics in 2011, in the journal On Thursday, and collaborates in the publications Cuore, GQ and El País, where he publishes his comics. When he left his job as creator, he turned with Carlos Carreroga to his personal project, Moderna de Pueblo. In this project he creates scripts, illustrates and directs contenidos.El character from his blog emerged in 2010 and soon became a viral phenomenon. Thanks to her she got the Connecta’t al còmic scholarship, which allowed her to publish her first graphic novel: I'm from a village. Her comics revolve around a 20-year-old girl who goes from town to city to search for success and parody situations that aim to connect with the people. He then publishes three other works: Capullos do not give flowers (2013), El cooltureta (2014) and Idiotizadas: from fairy tale to empowering (2017).
Many activities at the fair
The Getxo Comics Hall will be the meeting point for comic book makers. In this 17th edition it will be divided into two areas. On the one hand, in the tent of the Chess Square of Las Arenas there will be a shopping center. Visitors will be able to find 43 sales outlets, including comic book shops, specialized bookstores, publishers and other fields related to the ninth art, among others.
On the other hand, the Romo Cultural Centre will host an intense programme of activities in which, for three days, presentations of novelties, talks, round tables, projections and workshops will be offered, among others. In addition, a reserved area for fanzines will be set up, with free admission.
As usual, Getxo will be visited by prestigious artists, some of them of recognized international prestige, who will participate in talks and presentations, as well as in signature sessions so that fans can meet their favorite authors. The signatures will take place both in the Romo House of Culture and in the tent’s points of sale.
Guests of this year include Jason Lutes, Camille Jourdy, Marcos Martín, Natacha Bustos, Mamen Moreu, David Rubín, Anabel Colazo, Javier Pulido, Raquel Alzate. Along with them, many other authors participate in the project. For example, Javier Rodríguez, Javier Pulido, Raquel Alzate, Rayco Pulido, Paco Alcácer, Elisa McCausland, Josep Busquet and Jordi Bayarri. The guest authors include Nazario, one of the main exponents of the Spanish underground comic book. Next to the Zuloa library in Vitoria-Gasteiz, a tribute will be paid to you in Getxo.
There will also be no shortage of comic book exhibitions. Thus, the Bizkaia Bridge will host the Caóstica exhibition of David León and the Casa de Cultura Romo will exhibit works by Marcos Martín. Around the tent of the fair, you will be able to visit an exhibition dedicated to Asisko and, finally, in the Torrene Room of Algorta we will know the history of the Basque comic from 1975 to the present day.
