As a result, in 2019 Hemengoa started its food program, which will now be withdrawn by Navarra Suma at the end of next March. Sustainability and quality were the basis of the new programme and its main features are fresh, local, seasonal and ecological food. Based on nearby production, the growth of children with quality food was guaranteed and the initiative was beneficial to nearby Navarros producers.
Initially, 950 menus were offered in ten centres, but this year 1,350 menus were offered after the Children's Schools programme in the Lezkairu and Mendebaldea neighbourhoods had begun. Twelve feeding lots were formed, eleven from Navarra and twelve from fish, always based on fresh fish.
In the Commission of Autonomous Groups of Children's Schools, Navarra Suma noted that the distribution of food in twelve lots makes food management difficult and increases transport. They point out that if the distribution of food is done with a single supplier, the transport costs are considerably reduced, and that is what it will propose for the future, that the menus of children's schools in Pamplona be a single supplier. Navarre Suma recommends to producers that, if they want to continue the service, they establish a Temporary Business Union.
Against the children's school community
The technical teams of the schools worked hard to get it started in the program, but the school was very well received throughout the school community, the schools highlighted the ideal situation to promote a model of global change and link pedagogy, food, production and sustainability in a single project.
Consequently, the school community has now taken the decision of Nabarra Suma very badly and have announced that they will make efforts to follow Hemen. Of the 239 educators of Children's Schools, 219 have signed a text calling for the City of Pamplona to maintain the menus program. All the addresses of the 12 schools have made the same request and of the 952 families using the dining room service, 668 families (70% of the total) have requested the same.
The children's schools of the City of Pamplona, the Navarro Institute of Agricultural Technologies and Infrastructures (INTIA), the Council of Organic Production of Navarra (NNPEK) and the Menjadors Ecològics Association, of technical assistance to organic kitchens, have helped to take forward the Hemengoa programme.
