The Basque Government Minister of Health, Gotzone Sagardui, said that between March and April there will be restrictive measures related to mobility in the Basque Country. In recent days, he has pointed out that the improvement in the pandemic has slowed down considerably, specifying that the cumulative incidence remains very high – of 243.8. He has insisted on the need to continue prevention measures to curb the spread of the virus.
The Government of Navarra has opted for "prudence" before the holidays of Easter, as stated by the vice-president and spokesman of the government, Javier Ramírez. At this point, the priority will be "reinforcing the data" and "advancing vaccination". The president, María Txibite, said that she does not want to make a decision without the agreement of the area’s neighbours. At the moment Navarre is in the third level of alert, so the perimeter confinement appears as a measure to be valued, but the prevention measures and changes that are in force cannot be implemented until March 11. In Navarre, the rate of positivity has also increased, from 2.75% on Tuesday to 3.5% yesterday.
The Northern Basque Country is currently under a barrier of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, although preventive measures will not be relaxed. They propose that health policies depend on each territory, not only on those that are in a poor state, but also on those that have good results. In this way, Breton MEP Paul Molac has proposed that measures should be speeded up in areas with better health, that the curfew should be put at 18:00 and not at 20:00. This proposal has been rejected by the government of Emmanuel Macron.
