Rodrigo Cuevas
When: September 15, inside the Emmusikadas festival.
Where: Sala Central (Pamplona).
---------------------------------------------------------
This time I've given myself the opportunity to watch the concert and write a week later. A great concert was the one that Rodrigo Cuevas offered in Pamplona on the occasion of the Emmusikadas festival. The remnants of action deserve good digestion.
If there's someone you don't know, Rodrigo Cuevas is one of those artists called names and surnames. A folklorist. Stop. Asturian. One of them raises dust. And all of these elements make a mixed proposal a few years ago, although it's already known in recent months.
I'm not very folkloric. To begin with. In our case, we have exploited the trikitixa and Basque dances and more or less reactionary traditions, limiting Euskaldunity to this for many years. But there they are awakening new conceptions of folklore. Because folklore is based on that: it's the people, and therefore, if the people change, folklore also has to change.
Rodrigo suddenly appeared behind the room and sang among the audience with the help of his voice. At the end of the previous concert there were some curious ones. Many others were for that. He sang a fan in his hand and face to face on stage. The pen cannot be hidden or desired.
Your newly dismissed gives you a guide to a pilgrimage. And in fact, he offered a pilgrimage about the city on Friday night: a show, a dance, laughter and, in the words of Cuevas, a good opportunity to immerse himself in a physical, mood, oneiric and spiritual state. Fringes on underarms, suggestive shirt and felt shoes. Elements of tradition and a bit of drag.
Sing in Asturian. And he talked repeatedly about the four memorized phrases in Basque. At least he did more than one who had spent his whole life in Pamplona, but to stay well in the concerts of Euskal Herria. He danced up on the bar. He demanded freedom. He sang to the traditions and the legendary Rambal killed in Gijón. He parted and sang jotas.
A lot of things happened. But what I can say is that I, quite the opposite of lolar, ended up singing Lololo Buiaca. In Asturian or in Basque, if it is to revolutionize folklore and society, because I value hooliganism. More agitators like Rodrigo Cuevas are needed and fortunately they flourish gradually, in our case the Treasurer are the fastest parallel that comes to mind.
Things aren’t easy in fact, and it will be for one reason or another, but lately I’ve bitten my tongue more than I should for these two things: the culture of the sold out and the FOMO – the latter perhaps has to be explained, because it’s not said so many times: the... [+]
