Around noon on Tuesday, eight members of the LAB trade union have chained to the Parliament of Navarre to denounce the risk of Imanol Salinas being imprisoned. Other members of the National Police have attempted to deploy a banner in which they have been violently intercepted by House officers. The shackles start to shout in favour of Imanol and the trade union struggle: “You will not stop us”; “Union action is not a crime”; “Imanol free and with us”, among others. Meanwhile, other union members also distributed information sheets to the neighbours, who have been transferred to the Basurto Hospital.
Several Foral Police vans have reached a section of the police collision. The area has been evacuated, the chains of the stranded activists have been cut off and retained until they have been identified. They have subsequently been released by court order.
Itxaso Torregrosa, member of LAB, has been one of the people who has participated in the chain and made the statements. It says that they have the objective of questioning Parliament by chaining: “We want to know what your attitude is in relation to what is happening and we want to know what you are going to do.” It has also called on society to mobilize. With regard to the persecution of Imanol, Torregrosa has ensured that the trade union struggle is "more necessary than ever".
By a megaphone
Imanol Salinas was sentenced in May of this year to 21 months in prison by a court in Pamplona/Iruña. Salinas participated in a complaint action against the restaurant La Sangiovesa de Pamplona along with other members of the LAB trade union. Outside the restaurant, they concentrated, they pasted stickers and shouted slogans. The judge considered that the action had been "violent" and beat Imanol because he had in his hand in charge of the megaphone, which prevented him from doing so. Appeals by trade unions against the sanctions imposed by the Government are currently being reviewed. Should the conviction be confirmed, Salinas would be forced to serve 21 months in pre-trial detention.
Mobilisations
LAB has announced mobilizations for the coming days and weeks in support of Salinas and under the slogan “Borroka sindikala aurrera”. It has called concentrations in the capitals of Hego Euskal Herria: the 20th in Pamplona, the 23rd in Bilbao and Donostia-San Sebastián, and the 24th in Vitoria-Gasteiz. By the afternoon of Saturday, 28 September, the Abertzale syndicate has called for a demonstration to denounce abuses.
