The Government of Navarra has located 2638 empty houses in an investigation that has been developing since last January, according to the newspaper Noticias de Navarra.

As reported yesterday by the Department of Spatial Planning, the Directorate General for Housing has monitored buildings that may be empty during the past six months. To this end, water consumption and other indicators have been monitored. A total of 2,638 housing units have presented these indications, 72% of which are in the Region of Pamplona. The Foral Police has arrested 1,816 houses in the Navarre capital, 69 in Burlada and 23 in Ansoáin. Another 499 correspond to Tafalla, 202 to OLITE and 29 to Caparroso.

The Executive of the Foral Community considers evicted housing “when it is not used continuously for more than six months within one year from the last day of its residence”. However, the second housing units have not been taken into account. The actual figures can therefore exceed 2,638.

Large properties

In addition to empty dwellings, the properties of dwellings in the Foral Community have also been analyzed. The figures below are the following if you take a look at the owners of more than 20 homes: 4,896 properties are in the hands of 53 owners, which means an average of 92 per owner. 63% of these apartments are subject to the 7 companies dedicated to the management of the rent and to the Archbishop. 1,978 houses belong to 64 financial institutions, or to their real estate subsidiaries and active title funds. Among them, 18 are the great properties with more than 20 properties. Among the houses in their hands are 596 vacancies, 91 in the Region of Pamplona/Iruña.
