The Government of Navarre has agreed at its weekly meeting to take into account the decree of merits for the valuation of the Basque Country in the administration. In it, Euskera is considered a merit, together with English, French and German. It requests the Council of Navarre to give an urgent opinion on the decree adopted to give its opinion within 15 days.
It is a step before the final approval of the order of merit. The approval has been extended for a further five years in part of the previous legislation approved since it was annulled by the Superior Court of Justice of Navarra in 2017. The new decree aims to regulate the valuation of Euskera in the opposition competitions, especially in the mixed area, where there is currently a legal vacuum.
The new
Decree states that, prior to each public call, the posts in which the Basque Country and other languages will be valued as merit will be determined. There is no predefined list of jobs in the text that should be valued as merits. As for the Basque country, the project makes it possible to extend the merit to the mixed area, but it will not affect the non-Basque area. It also clarifies the application of Community languages (English, French and German), adapting to specific places and their use, which until now was valued at all jobs.
